On October 1, Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration vessel Yunlin discovered two Chinese fishing vessels anchoring and operating across the boundary in waters near Dongsha Island. After broadcasts ordering them to leave had no effect, it fired a high-pressure water cannon at the “Jinsha,” which refused to weigh anchor, for about 17 minutes. The vessel subsequently weighed anchor but lost power; the Coast Guard stood guard throughout and provided hot food, and the next day it was handed over to a Chinese work vessel for towing back. Ocean Affairs Council Minister Kuan Bi-ling confirmed the incident.
