Guanyuan Data's Guangzhou branch, dissatisfied with the labor arbitration ruling, has sued Li Yu, a dismissed employee with late-stage stomach cancer, bringing the case into first instance. A company staff member responded that the toll that prolonged litigation takes on a seriously ill employee "is not something the company needs to consider."

Li Yu was diagnosed with late-stage stomach cancer on May 20. During the medical treatment period, on June 16, he was dismissed by the Guangzhou branch of Guanyuan Data on the grounds of failing to meet performance targets. On September 11, the labor arbitration ruled that the company had unlawfully terminated the contract, ordering it to pay compensation of 15,700 yuan and a medical subsidy of 94,500 yuan.
