Patient Dies After Anal Fistula Surgery at Tang County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital; Family Seeking Explanation Driven Off by Security with Fire Extinguishers
On October 9, a 51-year-old male patient was admitted to Tang County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Baoding, Hebei, for anal fistula surgery. After the operation, his leg pain was fobbed off by a nurse as being due to the cold weather; on October 18 he was diagnosed with a high-risk blood clot, collapsed after getting out of bed, and died. On October 23, family members went to the hospital to demand an explanation and were driven off by security guards who sprayed them with fire extinguishers. The family questioned whether the hospital had tampered with the medical records, saying this was the second death following hemorrhoid surgery at the hospital within two years.
