On the evening of September 17, a New York Tibetan group set off from the United Nations headquarters on a six-day, roughly 200-mile walking protest against Xi Jinping's visit to the US, raising demands including independence for Tibet, repeal of the National Unity and Progress Promotion Law, an end to the boarding school policy for Tibetan children, and the release of the 11th Panchen Lama, with an expected arrival in Washington on September 23.
