In October 2010, the Chinese Communist Party's 17th Central Committee 5th Plenary Session decided to add Xi Jinping as Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress subsequently confirmed him as Vice Chairman of the State Military Commission the same month.
