On May 5, 2024, a Chinese-made T-59G tank in Chittagong, Bangladesh, suffered a barrel explosion during firing training after a round jammed. The loader was killed, and the commander and gunner were burned. A State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense investigation team submitted a report on May 7, attributing the accident to Bangladesh's use of non-Chinese standard ammunition and recommending a suspension of the use of such ammunition. The accident was not made public.
