In August 2024, the Institute for Cross-Strait Urban Planning at Xiamen University published an article suggesting that Beijing should establish a Central Taiwan Work Committee as a shadow government as soon as possible to comprehensively prepare for the takeover of Taiwan. The article was subsequently deleted from the entire Chinese internet.
