Today I'm going to break down the newly added Value-Added Tax Law for 2026 and share it with everyone. First, let's make the first point clear: there is no such thing as a special e-commerce tax; the tax standards for online and offline are completely identical. But there is a fatal critical point. For small-scale businesses, the VAT for annual sales under 5 million only needs to be paid at a rate of 1 point. Once your single-period cumulative sales exceed 5 million, you will immediately have to make up the difference calculated at a rate of 13 percent. Let's take the most realistic example: you do livestreaming sales, and you sold 3 million in one month. In the second month, if you sell less than 2 million, it's fine; but if it exceeds 2 million—even if it's 2.01 million, bringing the cumulative total to 5.01 million—then in the second month you will directly have to pay taxes at the 13 percent rate. Just the tax alone will require you to pay over 260,000 more. Think about it: you spent over 100,000 on traffic, had a high return rate, and in the end, you even have to pay out of your own pocket. Wouldn't you say that's completely unjust?

The first is VAT, and the second is individual income tax, uh, it's to make you pay these two amounts. Taking my noodle shop's fourth quarter as an example, last year, the fourth quarter of year 25, uh, the platform pushed my total turnover to probably around 350,000. I have to pay VAT, which is 1 percent, maybe coming to less than 3,500 yuan, and this must be paid. The second is personal income tax. If, uh, I don't file, if I don't file, uh, the tax bureau will assume that all this 350,000 is net profit, and I would need to pay 300,000 calculated at 0.5 percent.

For example, if you earned 1 million in Malaysia, and the Malaysian tax rate is 10 percent, you pay 100,000 there, and bring the remaining 900,000 back. Calculated under the domestic tax rate of 20 percent, the payable amount is 200,000. But the 100,000 you already paid abroad can be deducted, so returning to China only requires paying the difference of 100,000. The key here is to keep the overseas tax-paid proof properly.
