Taiwan Celebrates Double Tenth Day, King of Eswatini Pledges to Deepen Ties with Taiwan
King Mswati III of Eswatini visited Taiwan on October 9, pledging to deepen the long-standing friendship between the two countries and to continue supporting Taiwan's meaningful participation in the United Nations and related multilateral organizations. We cherish the long-standing friendship and cooperative relationship between our two countries, and look forward to further deepening these ties for the benefit of our peoples. Mswati III will attend Taiwan's National Day celebrations on October 10. Taiwan currently maintains diplomatic relations with 12 countries, most of them located in Africa, Latin America, and the South Pacific. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te will deliver a National Day address on October 10.
Since 2019, the Taiwanese Army has dispatched a US-made CH-47 Chinook helicopter during the National Day period each year, carrying a giant national flag flying over the Presidential Office. Because of Beijing's opposition, the Taiwanese flag is difficult to display openly at many international occasions, and for many people, seeing the flag fly over Taipei moves them deeply. When I see the Taiwanese flag, I feel it represents freedom, democracy, and freedom of speech. Actually, there are some occasions where it is inconvenient for Taiwan to raise the flag, but seeing such a large flag flying in the sky here, I feel truly very moved. What the flag represents in our hearts is actually a concrete symbol of national sovereignty. When we are able to see the flag displayed before our people, for us this is a very great achievement.
