Chongqing University of Technology issued an announcement stating that Li resigned in July 2025 and is no longer a teacher at the school. It also explained the police's decision not to file a case and the procuratorate's review.
Mr. Li had previously issued an apology letter to Liao admitting to having non-consensual sexual behavior, and later sued Liao for defamation and sought compensation. The lawsuit was dismissed by the court in June 2026.
Li, a former master's supervisor at Chongqing University of Technology, was accused of sexually assaulting public welfare advocate Liao in June 2025. After an investigation, the Wansheng Economic and Technological Development Zone Public Security Bureau concluded there was no criminal fact and decided not to file a case. The procuratorate also did not support the application for case-filing supervision.
