Li Hongyuan Sued by Huawei Over Severance Pay, Acquitted After 251 Days in Detention
When Huawei employee Li Hongyuan left the company in 2018, he negotiated a severance package of 330,000 yuan. Shortly after the money arrived, he was criminally detained by Shenzhen police, with the charges changing from embezzlement and leaking trade secrets to extortion. Because Li had kept recordings of the negotiations and public pressure mounted, he was released without charge after 251 days in detention and received state compensation of 107,522 yuan paid by the government.
