Hu Jintao was born in Taizhou, Jiangsu, in 1942, during the chaotic years of the War of Resistance. When he was 7 years old, his mother died of illness, and his father, unable to support them, sent him and his sister to be raised by his aunt, enduring a childhood marked by war and the hardships of living under someone else's roof.
