Teacher Zhang Zhengjie Issues Open Letter Accusing Chongqing No. 8 Middle School Principal of Having Police Take Him Away from Home in the Middle of the Night
On August 20, a self-described teacher, Zhang Zhengjie, issued an open letter accusing Zhou Yingchun, Party secretary and principal of Chongqing No. 8 Middle School, of having police take him away from his home in the middle of the night on charges of picking quarrels and provoking trouble, after he reported violations such as illegal admissions, the setting up of key classes, and hyping up college admission rates; the police later terminated the investigation on the grounds that no illegal acts had been found. The letter also relays students' experiences of having only a two-week summer vacation and frequent weekly tests, and calls for an end to illegal make-up classes.
