On September 12, a first‑grade middle school girl in Beitian Town, Yuci District, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province was surrounded, verbally abused, slapped and kicked by several students while going to a market. The video shows the victim being beaten by many people, with no one intervening. The school said it was a minor dispute among students; the education bureau and the police station expressed a passive attitude toward the bullying nature and the injuries. The victim is currently hospitalized for observation, and the police have intervened.

On September 13th, during freshman registration at the Zhongdu Campus of Shanxi Medical University, it was discovered that the loft beds with desks underneath were not equipped with climbing ladders. Freshmen are required to purchase them themselves at a price of 200 yuan each, sparking questions from students and parents about profiteering. Older students reported that previous cohorts also did not have ladders.
