Nine Yanbian prosecutors suspected of torturing Liu Xiyong to death were put on public trial at the Tianjin No. 1 Intermediate People's Court. Liu Fangfei attended the hearing holding a portrait of her late husband.
Liu Xiyong was taken to Yanbian, Jilin for interrogation in a different jurisdiction. During his time in Yanbian, he was subjected to torture by the special investigation team, resulting in seven fractures to his sternum and ribs, and died of asphyxiation.
