On September 2, 2021, the National Radio and Television Administration issued a notice requiring television and online audiovisual platforms to take political literacy as a criterion for personnel selection, specifying that "personnel with incorrect political stances who are alienated from the Party and the country must be resolutely rejected."

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television called out Sina Weibo, AcFun, and Phoenix New Media, ordering them to halt audiovisual program services and carry out comprehensive rectification, pointing out that they extensively broadcast non-compliant current affairs audiovisual programs and social commentary programs.
