Renowned macroeconomist Gao Shanwen has passed away due to illness at the age of 55. He previously worked at institutions such as Peking University and Guotai Junan Securities, and was well-known for his profound insights and warnings regarding the Chinese economy.

In a speech at the end of 2024, Gao Shanwen expressed sensitive views on the cyclical bubbles, consumption structure, actual growth rate, and future low growth of the Chinese economy. The speech was subsequently banned, marking his final public address.

Since the second half of 2021, China's real estate market has entered a three-year period of sharp decline, which is considered one of the main reasons for the current economic difficulties and may signal the bursting of the real estate bubble.
