Raymond Greene, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan's Taipei Office, warned at the 2026 Taipei Security Dialogue Forum on September 9 that any conflict in the Taiwan Strait would likely deal a blow to the global economy exceeding that of World War II, and said the Trump administration has made maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific its top priority, adding that the upcoming U.S.-China summit is an opportunity to advance a strategically stable relationship.

The U.S. State Department pushed back against criticism from China's Taiwan Affairs Office of Raymond Greene, director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), stressing that Greene's remarks fully represent the position of the U.S. government and urging Beijing to stop applying pressure on Taiwan.
