Research institution Citizen Lab has tracked and pointed out that a transnational network of at least 123 websites distributed across 30 countries around the world is disguised as local media to spread CCP overseas propaganda and disinformation.

The South Korea National Cyber Security Center revealed that 18 Korean-language websites have been disguised as local South Korean news media, with an operation style highly similar to fake news websites discovered in Italy.

Italian media outlet Il Foglio was the first to discover that several websites disguised as Italian local news outlets for Rome, Venice, and other cities were heavily republishing and embedding pro-Beijing and anti-American narratives.
