Mr. Liu stated that he did not receive valid notices for the court hearing or the judgment. His application for a retrial was rejected by the Dengzhou City Court on the grounds that service via SMS and phone call was legal. On November 4, the original trial judge responded that the retrial application had been answered and that it was inconvenient to accept an interview.

In December 2025, Mr. Gu from Henan sued Mr. Liu from Shanxi in the Dengzhou People's Court for unjust enrichment. The court determined that Mr. Liu had received a mis-transfer of 19,800 yuan and failed to return it, and did not appear in court after being summoned; it ruled that he must return the funds and pay interest.
