Liu Xingtai, former member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial CPC Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission, fell from power due to suspected severe disciplinary violations and crimes. In August of the same year, he was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve in the first instance for accepting bribes totaling 316 million yuan.
