Radio Free Asia reported on November 6 that Uyghur woman Reyila Wumaer was sent to a re-education camp at the age of 14 in 2017, sentenced to 12 years in prison at 18 in 2021, and died in a Xinjiang prison at 23. Local police and judicial authorities confirmed her death; one officer claimed she died of a heart attack but did not specify the condition or the circumstances of her death.
According to a Reuters report on November 4, China is seeking the extradition from Thailand of five Uyghur men who fled China in 2014 and have been detained by Thai authorities. Two of them were transferred to an immigration detention center after being pardoned on October 21, while the other three remain in prison. The two have issued an open letter pleading not to be sent back to China, while Thai officials stated that the decision on whether to hand them over will be made by the courts.
