On October 8, a civil service recruitment notice from a central political- and law-related unit under vertical administration (police staffing) circulated in student groups at Wuhan University, requiring that applicants' family members, spouses and other major social relations must not relocate overseas, and that personnel who have studied abroad on non-government-sponsored programs for more than 6 months will not be recruited.

In early August 2026, Fudan University scholar Zhang Weiwei claimed in a public lecture that Taiwan would have no next election, using this to hint at a timetable for a forced reunification. The remarks spread on social media platforms on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and sparked widespread controversy and resentment.
