Elevator malfunction at Qiyang Ganlan Jiayuan residential complex in Hunan kills resident who fell into shaft during botched rescue
On June 10, 2026, an elevator at the Ganlan Jiayuan residential complex in Qiyang, Hunan, broke down and stopped operating. After a security guard forced the doors open with a key, a female resident who had been trapped fell about 20 meters into the elevator shaft as she was leaving the elevator and died despite rescue efforts.
