The Hill publishes article by China expert Gordon Chang, citing report that China's homeless population has reached 47.5 million
U.S. publication The Hill carried an article by China expert Gordon Chang, citing a 2025 report that estimates China's homeless population at 47.5 million, more than five times the officially announced pre-pandemic figure from 2020. The report says many of the homeless are young people who lack stable jobs, earn too little to sustain life in the city, and face problems such as low social credit scores.
