On July 14, 2026, an environmental blogger revealed that areas around Yinzhan Town, Weng'an County, Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou have long suffered severe industrial waste gas pollution. The acrid air has killed trees and crops and caused villagers to vomit, and villagers' complaints over nearly ten years have gone unresolved.

In the early morning of September 18, 2022, a COVID-19 quarantine transfer bus overturned in Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou Province, resulting in 27 deaths. On September 18, 2023, marking the first anniversary of the incident, the public took to the internet to commemorate the victims and reflect on pandemic prevention policies.

In September 2016, Dushan County in Guizhou broke ground on a nearly 100-meter-tall all-wood Water Company Building despite fiscal revenue of less than 1 billion yuan, taking on nearly 200 million yuan in debt; it later became an unfinished project after the funding chain broke.
