Cyberspace Administration of Qinghai released a statement stating that the recently circulated claim online that the "former Qinghai Culture and Tourism Department director is driving a rideshare" is untrue, and the driver in the video is a local Xining rideshare driver named Mr. Bai.

On September 20, netizens reported that while taking a taxi in Xining, Qinghai, they found that a driver had an extremely professional knowledge of local administrative, ethnic, and geographical features, suspected to be Wang Xuewen, the former director of the Qinghai Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism who was previously dismissed for illegal drinking.

The former head of the Qinghai Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism was dismissed from his post due to the death of a person during a drinking session at a Party school. After being stripped of his rank, he failed to secure a grassroots position within the system, leaving him facing the dilemma of choosing between driving a ride-hailing car and delivering food.
