According to a September 29 report by the Chosun Ilbo, a Chinese national in his 60s, a former colonel-level cadre of the listening unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Staff Department, eavesdropped 13 times since 2024 on communications between South Korean and US fighter pilots and air traffic control towers, bringing recordings and frequency information totaling 13.9TB back to China. He was arrested by the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency while eavesdropping at a hotel in Gunsan in early August.
