In June 1999, under the leadership of Harbin Institute of Technology professor Fang Binxing, the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China was established, aiming to technically block Chinese people from accessing overseas networks, and becoming the origin of the Great Firewall.
