On October 8, the U.S. Department of State’s Rewards for Justice program announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest of Zhang Yu, a member of the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS), for his alleged involvement in illegal hacking into COVID-19 research systems at multiple U.S. universities and research institutions. His co-conspirator, Xu Zewei, was arrested earlier this year and extradited to the United States for trial.
