On October 15, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a public statement requesting that Western countries provide Patriot missile systems. Zelensky pointed out that because the West had previously asked Ukraine not to attack Russian targets, Ukraine was placed in a passive position when facing Russian strikes, and therefore he believed that obtaining defensive weapons was the minimum requirement to ensure that Ukraine could carry out effective self-defense.
