On July 14, 2026, a gold mining area in Suriname was thrown into panic after several Chinese men, wearing uniforms with national flag armbands and carrying guns, patrolled in formation. Local military and police raided the site, detained 16 people and seized weapons, and subsequently revoked the firearms permit of the company involved.
