US Attorney General Todd Branche held a press briefing at the White House on Tuesday, September 15. During the briefing, a reporter asked whether China is stealing US AI technology and whether the President would discuss the issue with visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping next week. In response, Branche said it is unfair to blame all of China. He noted that the two presidents have a good relationship, get along well, and have reached agreements together, but he also acknowledged that there are isolated actors within China that cause independent problems.

In his response, Branche quoted President Trump’s view, stating that current criticism of AI safety is a scam, and emphasized that the United States cannot lose to China in the AI competition. Previously, on September 14, Nvidia executive Jensen Huang, while attending the Owen Summit in Los Angeles, received a phone call from President Trump on stage and participated in an amplified discussion about AI. Trump also called the criticism of AI safety a scam during the call.
