Taiwanese people need to pay special attention to this, because over decades — if we count the Republic of China's more than a hundred years of contact with the West and with the United States — we have absorbed some of their habits and elements of their political system. The founding of the United States counts as the establishment of the first modern republic, the first democratic country.
