聯合國應立即恢復中華民國成員國身份

臺灣不應以臺灣國身份申請加入聯合國，而應該以中華民國身份重返聯合國。2758號決議的產生背景是當時的兩個政府依然處於爭奪中國實際執政政府地位，且都認同一箇中國的大前提下。只是因為中華民國在國共內戰中戰敗而退出大陸導致在聯合國中佔據常任理事國一席的“中國”的實際執政政府發生變更。因此，2758號決議將中國的代表權由中華民國轉給中華人民共和國是基於現實的也是合理的。

而現在，中華人民共和國和中華民國已經發展為兩個截然不同的政權。中華民國不再主張一箇中國，也不再謀求反攻大陸，建立了多黨的全民選舉的民主體制；而中華人民共和國對中華民國退守的臺灣島不具備任何實際的行政權，整個國家是一個建立在一黨專政的獨裁社會主義國家。兩個政權無論是從地理空間、政治體制還是意識形態、實際控制都是完全不同的，因此，應當按照基於現實的實際情況的原則，同意中華民國以獨立國家身份重新加入聯合國。這也是當初同意中華人民共和國取代中華民國代表中國席位同樣的原則——基於現實。

否則，臺灣兩千多萬人口被拒絕於聯合國大門之外是荒謬至極的，也令聯合國的合法性大打折扣。

Taiwan should not apply to join the United Nations under the name of "Taiwan" but should instead seek to re-enter the UN under the name of the "Republic of China." The background of Resolution 2758 was based on the fact that both governments were still competing for the status of the legitimate government of China, with both adhering to the premise of "One China." It was only because the Republic of China lost the Chinese Civil War and withdrew from the mainland that the actual governing authority occupying China's permanent seat at the United Nations changed. Therefore, Resolution 2758 transferred China's representation from the Republic of China to the People's Republic of China based on the realities of the time, which was reasonable.

However, the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China have now developed into two entirely different regimes. The Republic of China no longer adheres to the "One China" policy nor seeks to retake the mainland. It has established a multi-party democratic system with universal elections. Meanwhile, the People's Republic of China does not have any actual administrative authority over Taiwan, where the Republic of China is based, and the PRC itself is a one-party authoritarian socialist state. The two regimes are completely different in terms of geography, political system, ideology, and actual control. Therefore, following the same principle of basing decisions on reality, the Republic of China should be allowed to rejoin the United Nations as an independent state, just as the People's Republic of China was allowed to replace the Republic of China as the representative of China in the past—based on the facts on the ground.

Otherwise, excluding Taiwan's population of over 23 million from the United Nations is utterly absurd and severely undermines the legitimacy of the UN.
